- Introduction

The Applied Mathematics major trains students in the branches of basic mathematics (analysis, algebra, topology, and geometry) and offers courses in applied mathematics. In analysis, students study calculus, multivariable functions, and vector analysis. There are also courses on linear algebra, differential equations, and complex analysis. Students learn algebra, number theory, topology, and differential geometry. There are several statistics courses (basic statistics, mathematical statistics, and actuarial mathematics), with numerical analysis being a practical option. Through sources on financial mathematics, probability theory, and industrial mathematics, students can experience the power of mathematics in addressing modern-day problems. First-year students are required to learn a programming language, after which they learn mathematical theory, which is used widely in computer engineering, through courses on graph theory, discrete mathematics, and probability theory. After graduation, students pursue advanced mathematics at the graduate level or earn a graduate degree in education to become a middle/high school teacher. Graduates are also hired by financial institutions (banks, securities firms, and insurance companies) or corporations for data processing, work as programmers at a computer-related venture firm, or join a polling agency.
