- Introduction
-
The Landscape Architecture major promotes a mutuallybeneficial relationship between humans and the environment through the study of the social and natural sciences. It is a comprehensive discipline covering both science and the arts that is based on an exhaustive understanding of multiple fields, including urban planning and architecture, civil engineering, biology, and sociology. Its goal is to cultivate competent environmental planners and architects who are able to solve the diverse problems that emerge in relationship between nature and humans. The major fosters experts on the environment who are armed with the ability to think creatively and across disciplines—skills that are mandatory in the 21st century. To cultivate individuals who are not only knowledgeable but know how to apply their knowledge to real-world situations, it focuses on cultivating landscaping experts who can work efficiently on-site and with professionals from other fields. The major presents future-oriented solutions to technology development, planning, design, policy, and systems through investigative and analytical studies with the goal of making our cities and natural environment more comfortable and sustainable.
