- Introduction
-
The first branch of engineering to be organized into an academic discipline, Civil Engineering is a discipline that advanced alongside the growth of civilizations and aims to contribute to national development and public welfare through knowledge on planning, designing, and maintaining social infrastructures (most of which are constructed with public capital) in ways that are safer, more economical, and more eco-friendly. The “traditional” fields of civil engineering are the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructures such as roads, bridges, high-rise structures, tunnels, railways, subways, airports, ports and marine facilities, dams, canals, hydroelectric power plants, tidal power plants, nuclear power plants, and plant facilities. Today, the construction industry requires the use of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, such as big data and AI, in accordance with the changes occurring in the industry today. Efforts are consistently being made to provide efficient management for aging infrastructure, secure disaster response technologies, and develop advanced construction technologies. The major is comprised of five sections (structural engineering, water engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying, and GIS) and strives to produce civil engineers who are creative, have a vast arsenal of practical skills, enjoy challenges, and are capable of contributing to the future of society by creating safe and economical infrastructure. Night students are also selected.
