- Introduction
-
The Applied Bio-Industry Science major aims to cultivate experts who will lead the animal and biomaterials industries through research and diverse educational programs on animal food processing, hygiene, distribution, pets, and applied animal biotechnology. The courses in this major were developed through analyses of student needs as well as the needs of the animal biotechnology sector and span the following areas: basic applied disciplines (microbiology, molecular cell biology, etc.), animal foods (dairy processing, meat processing, etc.), animal food hygiene/safety (pathogenic microbiology, veterinary public health, etc.), animal companions (pet-mediated palliative care, pet science, etc.), feed processing (feed analysis, pet feed studies, etc.), and applied animal management/distribution (bio-business studies, etc.). Cutting-edge research in many areas of applied animal science (e.g. development of pet feed with livestock feed, fortification of IoT-based animal food safety, species restoration based on developmental biology, development of functional livestock feeds, pet-mediated palliative care) is conducted together with students, with the outcomes of such research published in prominent journals in Korea and overseas. The major is also carrying out diverse international development projects with countries such as Mongolia, the Philippines, Laos, and Cambodia. Student volunteers go on short- or long-term community service trips overseas.
- Educational Goals
-
- Cultivate expertise to conduct research based on major theories in the secondary animal science industry.
- Strengthen the challenging spirit and convergence capabilities to develop new education and products related to the processing, hygiene, and distribution industries to lead the future animal materials industry.
- Foster the ability to analyze and solve problems related to the biological industry for the 4th industrial revolution.
- Grow the ability to study in-depth applied disciplines required by the industry and apply them to the field.
