The Care & Education for Young Children with Disabilities major cultivates preschool teachers who can make meaningful contributions to early/specialized childcare. Infancy is the stage of life in which physical, mental, and emotional development begins. The curriculum is thus designed to ensure that students are able to properly care for children at this important time in their life. Based on an understanding of infant development, students learn pedagogical methods and how to take care of and design curricula for infants with different types of disabilities. Theoretical learning is accompanied by practical training at daycare centers (pre-training, caretaking of infants with disabilities, and general childcare) to ensure that students know how to apply what they learn in the classroom. After completing the major’s coursework, students gain two certifications: Level 2 preschool teacher (Ministry of Health and Welfare) and preschool teacher qualification for infants with disabilities (Ministry of Health and Welfare).
