- Introduction
-
The Korean Sign Language Teacher major produces Korean sign language teachers and interpreters who, based on an understanding of the hearing impaired and their language, life, and culture, are not only capable but also have a strong sense of mission and good character.
To give students the basic skill set they need to become a Korean sign language teacher or interpreter, the major offers the training and knowledge required amid today’s changing social needs and regularly updates its curriculum to reflect such social change as well as character-building, effective faculty- student consultation, and encouragement to create study groups and engage in volunteer activities.
To cultivate workers suited for today’s information-driven society, the major also develops sign language content for all ages.
The curriculum is offered as a major, minor, or double major so that it can, if necessary, be combined with other majors.
After obtaining the Level 2 Korean sign language teacher certification, graduates can work as sign language interpreters for deaf persons associations, sign language interpretation centers, disability associations, social welfare centers, museums, public institutions, the National Information Society Agency’s 107 sign language connection centers, or Gyeonggi-do Remote Communication Assistance Center.
Graduates can also enter a graduate-level degree program, work at a sign language research center, or be hired as interpreters for elementary, middle, or high schools or universities, instructors at any sign language education institute (municipal, county, or provincial), or employees of sign language content companies.
